Crashes on wake from suspend

Sometimes, at least daily, the screen is blank after waking from suspend. The screen is dark (but you can see that it is on), and sound is still heard when pressing the volume buttons (i.e. you can still change volume). Perhaps the compositor crashes?

More rarely, and I assume related, the screen wakes up but when it does so all apps have been closed.
