Two improvements from Ubuntu

Hi, I was today looking at nfs-ganesha in Ubuntu. I found two changes carried in Ubuntu that appeared reasonable to me (feel free to correct me) and not present in Debian.

I re-merged that for Ubuntu but also wanted to suggest/provide the same to you.

The commits are rather self-explanatory, if there any questions let me know.

P.S. Ubuntu has an extra reason to drop daemon other than being unused it also isn't in main, so we can't use it for nfs-ganesha which is.
