      use file-local variables instead of dir-locals.el · c4a4e04e
      Jonas Bernoulli authored
To not use the file `.dir-locals.el' to set buffer local variables for
Emacs lisp libraries. Instead set `indent-tabs-mode' to nil in each
library individually. That leads to a bit of duplication, but has the
advantage, that users can now use `.dir-locales.el' for their own
settings, without that file being tracked by git. To make that even
more convenient tell git to ignore it.

      fontify most magit `with' and `define' macros · 4d497db2
      Jonas Bernoulli authored
In libraries that are part of Magit automatically add font-lock
keywords for macros like `magit-define-command' and
`magit-with-section'. This can be turned off by setting
      `magit-add-font-lock-keywords' to nil.

A suggestion regarding tabs (in the form of code) · 54838ba4
      Peter J. Weisberg authored
A lot of code in Magit only looks right if you have `tab-width` set to
      8. Explicitly tell Emacs to use this value.

Tabs do *not* look right on GitHub, or anywhere else that doesn't
expect them to be 8 characters wide. So let's also avoid inserting
      more than are already there.
