Mediawiki backup/restore does not include images

I just did a backup on the old system and after installing mediawiki a restore on the new one. I had changed the allowed filetypes to include JPG, PDF, TXT etc. but not yet on the new system. After restoring the backup, the mediawiki was back but without any of the additional files.
