Topics for the 12.1 point release

The following topics are going to be considered for the mentioned point release, they are not guaranteed to be addressed in that point release:

  • Linux kernel hang on ppc64el, linux regression (#1033058)
→ Monitor or prepare a real fix (12.0 is very likely to just ship the workaround that's been briefly accepted then rejected upstream).
  • Better support for “loose” firmware packages/files (#1029962)
→ Review and implement in unstable, test at will, maybe ship in D-I Trixie Alpha 1 and explicitly request feedback, then only consider backporting patches to Bookworm.
  • UEFI vs. FB (#1036019)
→ Evaluate whatever workaround ends up being shipped in 12.0 vs. a possible real regression fix (either kernel or X) or a more permanent papering over the problem (proper addition to the fb-modules udeb).
  • Revisit firmware packages included in the netinst (amd64 is 738M for 12.0.0): at least nvidia stuff wasn't planned in the beginning, and could be removed. See #1039872
  • #1038103
