The Romanian translations contain useless prefixes/suffixes
Hello,
First of all, thanks for approving my account.
I opened a bug report a couple of days ago at https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1072742 The TL;DR is that the Romanian translations contain useless prefixes/suffixes:
"Alaska" -> "Statul Alaska" (i.e. "The state of Alaska")
"Bacău" -> "Județul Bacău, România" (i.e. "The county of Bacău, Romania")
"Thüringen" -> "Landul Turingia, Germania" (i.e. "The land of Turingia, Germany")
"Paris" -> "Orașul metropolitan Paris (capitala), Franța" (i.e. "Metropolitan city of Paris (capital), France")
"South Australia" -> "Statul Australia de sud" (i.e. "the State of South Australia")
Etc.
Source:
- I am a native Romanian speaker;
- The CLDR translations seem to be free of such words, see e.g. look up "Bacău" in https://github.com/unicode-org/cldr/blob/main/common/subdivisions/ro.xml
I am willing to invest some time in reviewing and cleaning up at least some of the translations. Is the Debian ISO team willing to consider such changes?
