[debconf25] Install party post-event writeup
I'm planning to use this issue to document a few things about how the Debian desktop install party event at DebConf25 went, with the goal of assisting future install parties. This will include things that went well and things that could be improved.
Relevant reporting will include things like:
- How well the venue was suited for the event.
- Transportation options.
- Accessibility.
- Space.
- Other.
- Whether organizers and venue co-ordinators had ample time to meet, agree and share thoughts before and during the event.
- The time required by organizers, hosts and participants in the build-up to the event itself.
- Timing required on the day for setup, hosting, installation, other tasks, cleanup and goodbyes.
- By my approximate memory:
- We arrived ~1pm and spent maybe an hour, or slightly less, with greetings (and coffee, thank you to our hosts), getting familiar with the space, demo machine setup and test printing
- Our workshop phase began around 2pm, and most of our team left at around 4:45pm
- By my approximate memory:
- Setup notes
- USB stick preparation
- Custom kernel command-line options for demo desktops
- Printouts and checklists
- Small detail: KDE had a login inactivity timeout and required a username/password note
- Workshop phase
- Having a talk about Debian OpenQA during the event was a nice way to interact with the audience
- One installation occurred, with confirmed signed waiver
- Hardware support mostly good -- some debugging time required for bluetooth. Device lacked a webcam.
The above is a bit of a mix of categories-to-document and actual-notes-from-this-event. It could be useful to formalize the categories so that other events know what to think about and report on, even when their timings and outcomes differ.
