Support for an arbitrary mua

Restore support for an arbitrary mua, removing the restriction on the 5 supported muas.

I used git to refresh the patch in #865792. Might as well use an MR.

Just noticed that today is the 10 year + 1 month anniversary of #532150, which this closes. That's a little bit weird.
