V 12.0.5 plus vmware requested pkg-split changes

This is the evolution of @bryce-guest great work in !14 (merged) I just wanted to help reducing the ping/pong latency on review/fix since it was almost done and added the remaining bits myself.

This shall PR trigger also the salsa CI, to ensure those are all good now.
