We need a good overall summary (about 1500chars) of the project that draws a more detailed picture but still isn't overloaded with terminology and values loaded language, links to resources that go to even more details are welcome.
Reading those few paragraphs should create a complete image of our vision, mission.
I guess a call to join our efforts should be included also.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book.
It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

I guess the Wiki and the FreedomBoxfoundation are good sources.
Maybe start out with an ordered list of things that make sense to adress from your point of view and get feedback on that? just an idea.
I think a clearly worded mission & vision are a good start - not sure what else needs to be in there.
Not sure if we have a mission described anywhere. Mission in my eyes is the how we plan to reach what we describe as our vision.
@mray @mridulnagpal I have already picked up the website, directly integrating the welcome text, and other issues into it; talked to @jvalleroy about this.
@mray Well as of now I've merged the hardware recommendations and project endorsements as well as the textual content into the static html. I think it's a good idea to get the rote textual matter out of the way before integrating it into the templates; what say?
I think the static content is just a placeholder to facilitate the creation of templates. Actual content should be added via lector (that is what it is for). This way you can even create the content without having any particular template.
@mray Okay, I think it's better if @mridulnagpal takes it up then (don't have enough time to learn lector from scratch) @mridulnagpal Are you still up to take this issue?
I think the "Mission" text does not fit well here.
it is too short
it references prior text
it seems more like a to-do list for contributors
My view on the welcome+more text is that while the welcome text has to be easy, short and clear. the "more" text would go into detail and clarify where we are coming from and where we are heading.
Things like:
what is our main drive? (software freedom, privacy, ...)
how do we think the future should look like? (decentralization, self control, protection, ...)
how we are going to make a difference (a big network of FreedomBoxes replacing corporate silos..., empowering individuals promoting freedom)
maybe point out who supports us (debian fsf sflc ...)
FreedomBox is a joined effort of people to regain control and privacy in the digital world by dragging it into the physical. Our vision is to use free software running on cheap hardware to replace services that are not under our control. Todays cost of CPU power and network bandwidth make hosting your own services affordable.
We unite the efforts of countless contributors from the free software world by building on top of Debain GNU/Linux. Our biggest contribution is to be the easy to use administration tool that takes care of otherwise challenging administrative tasks to keep your FreedomBox updated and running.
If you want to join our effort the volunteers and support the non-profit Freedombox Foundation get in touch with us!
Sorry this is a messed up sentence indeed. That was probably supposed to be something along the lines of:
"If you want to join the effort of our volunteers or support the non-profit Foundation behind them – get in touch with us."
I have merged the about page. I do like how the text is very crisp.
One point of ambiguity is the term 'service' in the first paragraph. To a reader who has not read the text in the main page this is not very clear. Can we address that?
