Proposal: Default to epiphany in gnome-core and keep firefox-esr for gnome
When comparing the apps in the gnome-core
package with meta-gnome-core-apps there are only very few differences left:
- decibels and gnome-music: Discussion
- Defaulting to gnome-terminal instead of gnome-console: I'm not completely sure what the difference between the two is, so nothing on this from my side
😀 - Default to firefox-esr over epiphany
I think Firefox is the right choice for most Debian users that install GNOME via the installer. But is it the right choice for the gnome-core
package as well? I assume people that install this package want the "core components from GNOME" which would be epiphany, and not Firefox. The gnome
package, to me, is "GNOME plus what Debian recommends for most users". To me, it therefore makes sense to default to epiphany
for gnome-core
, but keep the default for gnome
. From my understanding, my change would install Firefox (but not epiphany) if you install gnome
, but install epiphany if you install gnome-core
.
What do you think of the proposal? And if you like the proposal, is the implementation correct?
