Draft: Invalidate ring view more often, fixing assertion failures

Closes: #1040049. GNOME 43 version of !6 (merged).

Untested, so far. I'll upload to unstable if it seems to work (but I was never able to reproduce the crash, so I can't know whether this fixes it).

@bluca, would you be able to test a simple rebuild of this for bookworm on your machine that can reproduce the crash?
