Master

On my bug hunting of Python3.12 related bugs I've stumbled upon #1061850 which seems to be not caused by Python3.12 (or was fixed by the new upstream version you uploaded meanwhile). Since autopkgtest failed anyway I uploaded a fix to allow stderr output. I took the freedom to fix a clean target bug as well and uploaded as team upload. This MR contains the commits I've just uploaded.
